Departmental Opportunities/Resources
Summer internships for current M-1 and M-2 VCU medical students
The VCU Department of Family Medicine offers summer educational
projects with faculty from our downtown campus and residency programs.
These summer projects usually last four weeks. The duration of the
program varies and can be adjusted to suit each student’s/mentor’s
schedule, provided that the project is completed before the beginning
of the new academic year. A stipend of $1200 will be paid for the
four-week commitment.
An announcement about this program is made in the early spring.
These opportunities are of particular value to students who are
interested in learning more about family practice education and
research.
Interested students should contact GayOlsen
via e-mail or at (804) 828-9780.
The Kent Library
Dr. and Mrs. Paul Kent graciously fund the Kent Library, which
is located in the Department of Family Medicine. Their generosity
enables the department to provide books and other resources for
both students and faculty. If students have requests for materials
not available in the library, please contact Avis
Wimbish via e-mail or at (804) 828-9626.
Student advising
VCU Department of Family Medicine faculty takes an active role
in student advising. The department seeks to help any student
needing
advice or information, with an understanding that the focus is
on fostering growth and career development regardless of specialty
choice. Although “walk-ins” are welcome,
students wishing to speak with a particular faculty member are
encouraged
to arrange an appointment.
