Education and Training

Because NEI is affiliated with Virginia Commonwealth University, it is able to draw on the academic excellence of many departments across the university as it coordinates and promotes academic programs, training, research and services for nonprofit organizations. The Nonprofit Enterprise Institute provides the academic coordinating function for all nonprofit management curricula at VCU.

Office of Community Programs seeks to engage Virginia Commonwealth University with its community to enhance the quality of life for all who work, live and study in the Richmond metropolitan area.

The Especially for Nonprofits program is a certificate program to support educational opportunities and capacity building for the vast network of nonprofit organizations in the greater Richmond area. Especially for Nonprofits offers high quality, relevant and affordable courses, conferences and seminars and a certificate in nonprofit management.

The American Humanics Undergraduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management is a national organization that collaborates with affiliated university programs and nonprofit agencies to recruit, prepare and place students in meaningful careers with youth and human service agencies. The AH certificate program provides both curriculum and applied experience to equip students from any major with the necessary skills for employment in the nonprofit field.

Specialization in Nonprofit Management in the Master of Public Administration degree program
Students who wish to pursue a master’s degree may specialize in Nonprofit Management as part of the Master of Public Administration (MPA). The MPA program is designed to meet the graduate educational needs of 1) working professionals who wish to advance their careers and 2) pre-service students who desire careers in government and nonprofit sectors.

Concentration in Nonprofit Management in the Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration
Students gain the knowledge and skills in nonprofit governance, management, fundraising, program development, and evaluation needed to become leaders and change agents.

VCU School of Government and Public Affairs
Faculty members in this school focus on bridging theory and practice through producing high quality research and public service, from state and local levels to national and international arenas. Faculty will be studying how to help disadvantaged communities enhance their own capacities; how state governments can position themselves to succeed in a globally competitive environment; and how the international community can work more successfully to protect human rights around the globe.

VCU School of Social Work
The School has three academic programs - the baccalaureate program, which prepares students for entry in the social work profession as a generalist practitioner; the master's program, which prepares students for a specialization in planning and administration or clinical social work practice; and the Ph.D. in Social Work program, which prepares students for careers as faculty members, researchers, and developers of practice and policy innovations.

Center for Public Policy at VCU was established in 1994 with the goal of focusing the university's multidisciplinary efforts in public policy. As a comprehensive, university-wide center, the CPP has responsibilities in each area of the University's broader missions: teaching, research, and public service.
